Jakarta, 23 April 2019 – PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) and the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprise (SOE/BUMN) were in Palembang Tuesday (23/4) to inspire and motivate around 3,000 students at Universitas Muhammadiyah. Apart from expressing gratitude to all parties in attendance, the university rector, Dr. Abid Djazuli, S.E., M.M said in his remarks that the university will continue to develop cooperation with Telkom. 

The BUMN Goes to Campus program that the SOE Ministry initiated is one of the events held to celebrate the SOE Ministry’s 21st anniversary. This program is also a way to increase understanding about the role of SOEs in national development.

Programs in the BUMN Goes to Campus event at Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang were talks shows featuring Deputy of Business Infrastructure at the SOE Ministry, Hambra, Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah, Dr. Abid Djazuli, S.E., M.M, Telkom Director of Human Capital Management and Chairperson of the Indonesian Human Capital Forum (FHCI) Herdy Harman and millennial local entrepreneur Fifie H. Boy. The talk show was followed by a sharing session by millennial employees of SOEs and Youtubers who shared their experiences in their respective fields and they could become inspirations for millennials in their drive to develop the nation. 

To celebrate the 21st anniversary of the SOE Ministry, Telkom organized a BUMN Goes to Campus program in South Sumatra province, at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang. Other SOEs also organized similar activities in several universities throughout Indonesia. Apart from Telkom, there were also SOEs that organized the same event, such as Semen Indonesia at Universitas Bung Hatta, Padang and the National Gas Company (PGN) at Universitas Santo Thomas, Medan.

"SOEs has been organizing this activity separately. Now it is time for SOEs to sinergyse in organizing mass activities for our common interest and SOEs are committed to always being present for the country to show the main pillars of the economy’s real contribution to  the national economy," said Hambra, SOE Ministry’s Deputy for Business Infrastructure in his remarks at Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang.

In the talkshow session, Telkom Director of Human Capital Management Herdy Harman said that as time goes on, SOEs have became stronger and stronger in giving their best contribution to the community. "SOEs are present not only in terms of economic development and improving community welfare, but also to provide broad opportunities for young people to work through various programs including Siswa Mengenal Nusantara, joint recruitment, Spirit of Millenials dan BUMN Goes to Campus. As the name BUMN Goes to Campus implies, every SOE is present amongst students across Indonesia to provide inspiration and boost enthusiasm to continue working in developing the nation,” Herdy said.

Great People Philosophy in Developing Telkom Talents and Leaders

Herdy said, "Upon entering the industrial 4.0 era and facing the current disruptive challenges, Telkom has a concept in managing its human capital, which includes people, culture, organization and digitizing process aspects. There are five main aspects that we are looking for in finding the best talents, namely strong character, the best competency, having digital competence with disruptive mindset, collaborative and having social awareness."

Furthermore, Herdy explained that for develop the best talents and leaders, Telkom instills the Great People philosophy in building talent and leaders, which starts from recruitment, managing employee competencies, giving rewards and exclusive programs to selected employees, work-life integration to retirement. "With this concept, we expect that the best graduates from all universities in Indonesia would be interested to become best talents in SOEs, especially in Telkom," Herdy said.

On the same occasion, FHCI and Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the FHCI handed over a campus development aid program, such as laboratory equipment assistance and educational funding assistance for outstanding students. The event ended with a door prize drawing and music entertainment from HiVi.
