Jakarta, 1 May 2021 – PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) services in Jayapura and surrounding areas were disrupted on Friday night (30/4) at 19:40 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) after the Sulawesi Maluku Papua Cable System (SMPCS) submarine cable infrastructure for the Biak - Sarmi section was severed. 

Vice President of Corporate Communication, Pujo Pramono, said that telephone and SMS services had resumed on the same day, at precisely 22.45 WIB. Data services on fixed and mobile broadband are still being restored gradually for its service quality by optimizing satellite capacity, terrestrial IP radio communication systems, as well as support from other infrastructure including the utilization of the East Palapa Ring network.

"We apologize for any inconvenience that customers and communities in Jayapura and surrounding areas experienced. We will try to accelerate the repair so that our quality of service can soon resume as normal,” Pujo said.
