Jakarta, 3 September 2020 - In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) has consistently accelerated digitization in cities and district capitals across Indonesia. This is to ensure that connectivity and information access will be equally available for all people in order to create a globally competitive Indonesian digital society.

In early September 2020, Telkom overhauled the telecommunications infrastructure in Madiun by modernizing it with 100% fiber optic-based network, making it a Modern Broadband City. Mayor of Madiun, Drs. H. Maidi, SH, MM, MPd with Telkom Network & IT Solution  Director, Herlan Wijanarko and Telkom Consumer Service Director, FM Venusiana R launched the Madiun Modern City at Madiun city hall on Wednesday (2/9).

Telkom Network & IT Solution Director Herlan Wijanarko said: "The network modernization to fiber optic is an important foundation in providing digital services, for digital platforms and services. With Madiun’s network modernization, the city administration can conduct its activities completely digital.

The launch of Madiun Modern Broadband City is a Telkom's commitment to provide quality and reliable digital infrastructure expected to support the development of local, regional and national economic potential. "This network modernization program is a form of Telkom's commitment to improve ICT services quality for the people and to accelerate the realization of Indonesia’s digitalization,” he said.

Mayor of Madiun Drs. H. Maidi, SH, MM, MPd said he appreciated the launch of Madiun Modern Broadband City. "With this Modern Broadband City, in the future, Madiun city administration will have better public services for the residents. Hopefully it will run smoothly and can boost the city’s development program,” Maidi said.

Despite the difficult situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Herlan said that Telkom continues to optimize its operational network, including fiberization to support the broadband experience of TelkomGroup customers who conduct their activities from home.

"At least there was an increase in service traffic of roughly 1.5 Tbps with a growth of 18%, out of which 52% was domestic traffic and 48% was global traffic when people were working from home," Herlan said.

To date, Telkom has modernized its network in many cities and provinces in Indonesia into 270 Modern Broadband Cities and 761 T-Cloud, and has shut down 1,234 Automatic Telephone Centers (STOs).

"May God Almighty always protect and bless everything we do, especially colleagues who work in the field to ensure TelkomGroup services runs smoothly. Hopefully this pandemic will soon be over and we can return to the normal condition,” Herlan said.
