Pontianak, 9 February 2023 - PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) launched its fourth data center on the island of Kalimantan, neuCentrIX Pontianak, to support the development of digital ecosystems in the new national capital Nusantara and the Kalimantan region. The launch was part of Telkom's continued committed to accelerating digitalization in various aspects of life accross Indonesia by providing the best digital infrastructure, platforms, and services. Telkom Wholesale and International Service Director Bogi Witjaksono launched CentrIX Pontianak, with Telkom Regional VI Executive Vice President Fera Pebrayenti, Chancellor of Tanjungpura University Prof. Dr. Garuda Wiko, SH, M.Sc., Director of PT Borneo Cakrawala Media Andri Irawan, Director of PT Indonesia Rapid Network Erlan Dede Setiawan, West Kalimantan GM of PT Trans Hybrid Communication Maxwell Hosea, and invited guests witnessing the event. During the same occasion, Telkom and Borneo Cakrawala Media, the Indonesian Rapid Network and Tanjungpura University also signed a Minutes of Agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding. 

 

The neuCentrIX Pontianak was built with a capacity of 57 racks and is part of the national data center ecosystem encompassing over seven clusters. This data center is connected seamlessly with the neuCentrIX Banjarmasin, Balikpapan, and Sepaku networks as well as TelkomGroup data centers across Indonesia. The data center in Pontianak is also connected to other TelkomGroup telecommunications infrastructure such as the JaKaLaDeMa (Java-Kalimantan-Sulawesi-Denpasar-Makassar) fiber-optic cable, which goes to the Batam communication gate, IGG (Indonesia Global Gateway), and the Manado communication gate. The presence of neuCentrIX Pontianak will accommodate customers and businesses' various needs including edge computing, platforms and other digital services for wholesale (internet service provider) as well as enterprise, government, micro small medium enterprises, and universities.

Telkom unites all data centers into four layers with international standard facilities, in accordance with global data center specifications, and is supported by various existing connectivity alternatives with the hope of supporting the creation of Indonesia's digital independence," Telkom Wholesale and International Service Director Bogi Witjaksono said.

 

Tanjungpura University Chancellor Prof. Dr. Garuda Wiko, SH, M.Sc. thanked and appreciated Telkom for its express service and gave a testimony for Telkom's service support to realize campus digitalization. "Untan is expected to have a strong digital ecosystem and we need a strategic partner to help make it happen. We are greatly helped by Telkom's support. Hopefully in the future Telkom's support will accelerate Untan's digital ecosystem," Prof. Dr. Garuda Wiko said. 

 

The data center business is projected to have great potential in the future, in line with the current high demand. Therefore, TelkomGroup in the next two years will focus on strengthening and developing its data center to meet domestic demands in Indonesia and capture the global market opportunities for digital players. Currently TelkomGroup has 32 data centers consisting of five global data centers and three enterprise data centers (Sentul, Serpong, and Surabaya) with Tier 3 and Tier 4 classifications, as well as a Hyperscale Data Center (Cikarang) and 23 neuCentrIX spread in various cities in Indonesia.

 

TelkomGroup's efforts to strengthen its positioning in the regional data center business are in line with the company's focus on optimal value creation based on the Five Bold Moves strategy, especially data centers. Thus, it can  accelerate its steps to realize corporate sustainability and national digital sovereignty.
