Jayapura, 18 March 2021 – PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) continues to develop the country. Its loyal service is manifested in various actions, such as comprehensive and equal distribution of internet access in Indonesia. Through its superior fixed broadband service, IndiHome, Telkom this time forged happiness for the motherland by providing internet access and many useful activities to support creativity and productivity, especially for the Papuan people, in a program entitled IndiHome Wonderful Papua.

The IndiHome Wonderful Papua program began with Telkom Consumer Service Director FM Venusiana R. and Telkom Network & IT Solution Director Herlan Wijanarko launching 10 Wifi Corners (WiCo) in several cities in Papua, including Merauke, Wamena, Timika, Raja Ampat, Sorong, and Manokwari. The launch was held in a hybrid manner with some participants present at the location in Kampung Sereh, Jayapura Regency, which strictly complied to health protocols, while others attended the historic event in Papua via video conference connected by IndiHome internet network from their respective places.

The WiCo installation in Papua is part of Telkom's commitment to ensure equal internet access distribution in Indonesia, not just for people living in big cities in Java, but also for people in other cities outside Java, including Papua. In compliance with the health protocol, WiCo is designed with proper air circulation and restricts the number of users in accordance with protocol. 

"Internet access has become a basic need for people in Indonesia and even in the world. In fact, internet consumption is equivalent to physiological needs, such as eating and drinking. Telkom as a state-owned company, as an agent of development, hopes to make a useful contribution to the locals. In the future, we are targeting to install and to operate 50 Wifi Corners in Papua. With internet access becoming more evenly distributed in Indonesia, Indonesian people are more ready to move forward to an Advanced Indonesia," Venusiana said during the WiCo Papua launch (17/3).

Furthermore, to promote digitalization in eastern Indonesia, IndiHome Wonderful Papua offers a variety of social, cultural, educational and tourism activities, as part of Papuan people empowerment. Telkom Regional VII Eastern Indonesia conducts the program which is aimed to introduce the culture and beauty of Papua, as well as to promote IndiHome in anticipation and in supporting the 2021 National Sports Week (PON) to be successfully held in Papua .

Not only promoting its natural resources, IndiHome Wonderful Papua also highlights Papuan youth’s creativity who have various talents and potentials that could make Indonesia proud. One of their main talents is to sing, and this is the basis of IndiHome’s Gita and Nada Papua program. It is a cover song special competition for Papuans to participate in, which is open from March 18 to April 10 2021. The IndiHome Wonderful Papua series would also feature a webinar with IndiHome on Wonderful Papua Batik, which feature speakers such as branding experts Subiyakto and Yakoba Womsiwor, Papuan socio-cultural activists. The speakers discussed community development and empowerment through Papuan batik, in order to compete in the global market.

Other speakers from Papua also featured in the Wonderful Papua Photography Webinar with IndiHome, such as Aditya Key and Soni Wanda who talked about visualization of Indonesian culture and natural beauty in the lens, tips and tricks for easy photography while traveling and explanations about photo competitions.

By organizing IndiHome Wonderful Papua, Telkom hopes it could generate a new spirit for the Papuan people, support equal access to information across Indonesia and accelerate the nation's digitalization.
