Innovillage is a program that Telkom initiated to bridge innovation and the education sector, in this case students, with rural communities' needs for digitalization to improve their welfare. The program, now in its second year, received 479 proposals from 67 universities in Indonesia on social projects to produce innovations that would help rural communities to solve various social problems, and has a total funding of Rp. 1.8 billion from Telkom. Experts such as Teddy Poernama as TJSL Coordinator of the State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) Ministry, Deputy Chairman of ITDRI Arif Rudiana, Telkom University Vice Chancellor Dr. Dadan Rahadian, ICCN Vice President Prof.Dr. Elly Munadziroh, Telkom Community Development Center SGM Hery Susanto, and Telkom HCBP Deputy SGM Ganjar Daniswara were among the panel of judges who assessed and selected the proposals.

Social activist and CEO of Benihbaik.com Andy F. Noya said during the sharing session that "this Innovillage competition not only brings a social impact to the community, but also has an impact on students and the younger generation themselves so that they are trained to become future digital leaders who are perceptive to their surroundings, and ready to continue to build a better Indonesia”.

The students had six weeks to execute their social projects by going to the field and the community to apply the proposed innovations. Based on the evaluation and monitoring of the social projects executions in the field, the judges selected 15 semifinalists to advance to the final round or the business presentation phase.

Some of the  approaches taken in the presentation consisted of solutions proposed to address community concerns or pain points, projects that have been implemented and the tangible benefits for the community, the level of qualitative and quantitative usefulness, the novelty of the proposed innovations, and collaboration with the community and local government.
