Jakarta, 8 June 2021 – Telkom, represented by Indonesia Telecommunication and Digital Research Institute (ITDRI), signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Huawei ASEAN (Indonesia) on 19 March 2021, in a joint commitment for digital talent empowerment.
To implement the MoU, TelkomGroup Chief of Technology Officer Herlan Wijanarko accompanied by Telkom CorpU SGM and Chairman of ITDRI, Jemy V. Confido on Thursday (3/6) opened the 5G On-Boarding for Telkom Senior Leaders. Dean of Huawei ASEAN Academy Indonesia, Mr. Lai Chaosen, Huawei Telkom Account Director Mr. Allen Yuhaizhong, Huawei Telkom Account Manager Mr. Lubby Lucheng, and Wireless Network Technical Trainer Huawei & Keynote Speaker Mr. Jimmy Tan were also present at the event.
In his opening remark, Herlan said that 5G, as a technology leap, will be a game changer that impacts on the telco industry’s health and sustainability in Indonesia in the coming year.
"TelkomGroup, especially Telkomsel, is the first mover to roll out 5G technology that aims not only to be a technology leader but also to keep pace by developing the 5G ecosystem," Herlan said.
Herlan said the ITDRI and Huawei cooperation could generate new innovations and talents especially on new technology such as 5G, AI, Big Data, IoT, and Cloud, which could also support the three pillars of ITDRI as a research institute, a digital academy, and a telecommunication & digital capability center.
Jemy said in his remarks that the training program is part of the ITDRI – Huawei collaboration. “Our work on this digital competency development program contributes to Indonesia’s talent development. Apart from that, we will of course strengthen innovation and research with national and global partners like the one we are having today,” Jemy said.
On the same occasion, Lai Chaosen said that he would focus on developing talent for new technologies such as 5G, AI, Big Data, Cloud, and IoT to build up Indonesia’s ICT talent in today's digital transformation society.
"We hope to achieve through this program a series of joint research and innovation collaborations with Telkom and the Government of Indonesia to promote digital transformation and commercial success for both parties in the near future," he said.
According to him, this is a good time to discuss the 5G business model, development trends, key technologies, and share global cases in Indonesia. Lai also said he hopes Telkom - ITDRI can gain a lot and have greater confidence in the 5G networks development and commercial applications in the future.
The training was held virtually using the Virtual Learning Interactive Class (VLIC) platform, with 44 TelkomGroup Senior Leaders as participants. Jimmy Tan delivered for them three learning modules including those related to 5G Industry Progress, 5G Use Case and Business Application, and 5G Intelligent Operation Maintenance.
