Developing a data center is a manifestation of Telkom's commitment to become a major player in the digital platform business, which is also in line with Telkom's transformation and vision to become a digital telco.

Jakarta, 15 February 2022 – In an effort to address the challenges of the digitalization trend and the growing potential of the industry, and in line with the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Erick Thohir' directive to focus on digital business, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) continues to develop and strengthen the capabilities of digital platforms through development and arrangement of data center business that TelkomGroup owns.

TelkomGroup last week (10/2) welcomed lawmakers from the House of Representatives Commision VI who were on a working visit to data center facilities in three locations, namely Serpong, Sentul, and Cikarang. The Commission VI lawmakers intended to see the development progress and the current condition of TelkomGroup's data center facilities. Telkom President Director Ririek Adriansyah and Telkom's board of directors welcomed the legislative delegation, with Telkom's subsidiaries leadership, including the President Director of Telkomsigma Bhimo Aryanto and the President Director of Sigma Tata Sadaya Andreuw Th.AF were among the welcoming party.

Telkom President Director Ririek Adriansyah said during the lawmakers' visit at the Hyperscale Data center that currently phase 1 of Hyperscale Data Center Cikarang development has been completed. “In total we have 27 interconnected data centers, including the large-scale one, the Hyperscale Data Center in Cikarang. Developing a data center is a manifestation of Telkom's commitment to become a major player in the digital platform business, which is also in line with Telkom's transformation and vision to become a digital telco. The market demand for a data center in Indonesia is growing very rapidly and it becomes a great opportunity for Telkom to become a dominant player in the market. The data center will be very useful in the development of 5G technology in the future.”

Not only infrastructure, Ririek said that Telkom also offers a complete concept in the data center business. Telkom has three important aspects in the data center business; seamless, connectivity, and eyeballing. It is seamless because it is connected to all TelkomGroup's data centers, including to the edge data center. Connectivity means the Hyperscale Data Center is connected to TelkomGroup's broadband backbone infrastructure. Lastly, eyeball means access to TelkomGroup customers  who are digital business users.

During the visit, House Commission VI chairman Mohamad Hekal said the lawmakers appreciated TelkomGroup's data center development, especially on the development progress of the Hyperscale Data Center in Cikarang. "We are very proud of the data center that Telkom is developing, especially of the Hyperscale Data Center construction where we are now. That is something to be very proud of and hopefully this can help to support the development of technology in the future," Mohamad Hekal said.

Mohamad Hekal also said he hopes that Telkom's data center can support domestic startups and become the backbone for Indonesia's digitalization development. "Hopefully this can increase Indonesia's ability to support new startups that our compatriots' develop and can also become the backbone for Indonesia's digitalization development so that we can keep up with the latest technology and development," he added.

Another lawmaker from House Commission VI, Eko Hendro Purnomo, appreciates Telkom's commitment in developing a data center. He said that in the future the need for data centers will be very high and it will be very useful for the domestic generation.

“I am proud to see the data center that Telkom is developing. Here I see the extraordinary commitment of how Telkom is trying to develop this data center because I believe that in the future this data center will be very much needed, namely to serve startups, especially those developed by home-grown developers. In addition, the need for data centers in the future is also very high, in regards to the needs of startups, as well as the game (industry) and also other emerging applications," Eko said.

"With Telkom's capacity and capability to develop a digital platform through a data center, we hope that it can accelerate national digitalization and make Indonesia an even better country in future,” Ririek said.
