Jakarta, 10 November 2020 – The number of Indonesian cinema viewers has increased fivefold in the past decade. However, this has not been concurrent with the number of cinema screens and limited viewing hours, in addition to the limited coverage of cinema networks, which are only available in big cities. This condition is exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic that has been going on for the last few months. The physical distancing policy as part of compliance with the health protocol requires cinemas to significantly reduce their seat capacity, and even some theathers have had to temporarily stop operating. This certainly poses a challenge in itself for the film industry, especially the national film industry.

To overcome the situation, IndiHome as a fixed broadband service owned by PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) launched IndiHome Cinema, an innovative program that can provide the best viewing experience for customers at home just like in a cinema. Executive General Manager of Telkom's TV Video Telkom Division, A. A. Gede Mayun Wirayuda symbolically launched the program on Tuesday (10/11). Setyo Budianto, the Chief Operation Officer of PT Metra-Net as a representative for IndiBox and Teuku Rifnu Wikana from PT Kurnia Alam Semesta as a representative for film provider partners were also present at the launch.

IndiHome Cinema is the latest feature from IndiHome TV and IndiBox, which presents the sensation of watching cinema at home, with a variety of flexible viewing time options and meet the movie buff’s  desire to watch movies quickly, easily and economically. In regards to the content, IndiHome Cinema is open to collaborating with national and foreign film industry players, and at this early stage, IndiHome collaborates with PT Kurnia Alam Semesta (KAS) as a film provider partner.

Executive General Manager of Telkom's TV Video Division, A. A. Gede Mayun Wirayuda said, “IndiHome Cinema is a manifestation of Telkom’s support for the national film industry as it faces with the current challenges, especially in the pandemic era. We hope that IndiHome Cinema can become a forum for Indonesian film creative industry players to reach a wider market and at the same time provide the best viewing experience for IndiHome customers."

Chief Operation Officer of PT Metra-Net, Setyo Budianto, said that IndiHome Cinema can inspire Indonesian filmmakers, despite the limited screens available to show Indonesian films during the pandemic. With IndiHome Cinema, IndiBox customers can enjoy selected films directed by Indonesian cineasts at the comfort of their homes with their families.
On the same occasion, Chief Public & Corporate Communication of PT KAS Teuku Rifnu Wikana said his company is committed to presenting the best and latest films and IndiHome Cinema can simultaneously screen movies that are playing in theaters and even movies that have not yet been shown in theaters including short movies and regional ones.

"This is an original, homegrown idea by those who confidently believe that the cinema industry will still strive and will always exist for the people of Indonesia. This initiative is to ensure the sustainability of Indonesian cinema and we are very enthusiastic about collaborating with IndiHome, and we believe that with IndiHome’s nationwide penetration, it will provide vast opportunities for all movie buffs in the country to get the latest interesting and entertaining films without having to leave home,” Teuku Rifnu Wikana said.

With IndiHome Cinema’s presence, customers would not  have to worry about running out of tickets for their favorite movies in theaters because ticket purchases are already available through the IndiHome TV screen, and customers can watch their favorite movies at the comfort of their homes. With very affordable ticket prices, IndiHome customers can comfortably and safely watch the latest movies together with the whole family at home.
