Jakarta, 21 March 2019 - The Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) of the Republic of Indonesia and PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) signed a Cooperation Agreement for the Supervision and Security of Marine Cable Communication Systems (SKKL).
Bakamla’s Deputy for Information, Law and Cooperation Commodore Dade Ruskandar and Telkom Executive General Manager of Service Operation Division Revolin Simulsyah signed the agreement, witnessed by Head of Bakamla Vice Admiral A. Taufiq. R and Telkom Director of Network & IT Solution, Zulhelfi Abidin on Thursday (3/21) on board the patrol boat KN Tanjung Datu 1101 in Batam. This collaboration is forged to support the supervision and security of TelkomGroup’s SKKL in Indonesia’s territorial waters and jurisdictions.
Both parties agreed to a range of cooperation such as the exchange of data and information, public information dissemination and legal counseling, implementing the Marine Safety and Safety Patrol activities and monitoring of the TelkomGroup SKKL line. Bakamla is tasked to conduct security and safety patrols at sea, and they are authorized to prevent and prosecute violations of law in the territorial waters and jurisdiction of the Republic of Indonesia.
"We really need Bakamla’s help to assist us in maintaining and supervising SKKL. With Bakamla’s fleet, we hope that we can secure ad maintain the SKKL, which is a strategic asset of Telkom and the State,” said Telkom Director of the Network & IT Solution Zulhelfi Abidin.
Zulhelfi further said that as a state-owned telecommunications company, Telkom plays an important role to develop telecommunications infrastructure that connects Indonesia from Sabang to Marauke, to ensure equal distribution of information among the people and to support national development, in which the SKKL infrastructure using undersea optical fibers cables is part.
"SKKL is the main medium to transport and deliver TelkomGroup products and services to all segments of customers, namely Mobile, Retail, Enterprise, Wholesale and international communication.
"Telkom currently has 161 thousand kilometers of fiber optic backbone, of which 23 thousand kilometers are domestic submarine cables," Zulhelfi said.
On the same occasion, Zulhelfi specifically also requested Bakamla's assistance to prioritize the security of Telkom's SKKL line during the April 2019 Election. Zulhelfi said that the government mandated TelkomGroup to provide information and communication technology infrastructure from the Central National Elections Commission (KPU) to all provincial commissions in Indonesia mandated Telkom.
