Badung, 28 December 2021 – Indonesia will again play host for international events. For the first time, Indonesia will host and has officially assumed the G20 presidency for a full year starting 1 December 2021 until the G20 Summit is held in November 2022. The success of the events requires careful preparation with a series of activities leading up to the summit at the end of 2022.

Provision of telecommunications infrastructure and services is crucial and requires assurance for the success of the G20 events. PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom), as a state-owned telecommunications company, takes part in ensuring that the events would run successfully, through reliable, world-class telecommunications infrastructure and services.

On Tuesday (28/12), State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) Minister Erick Thohir together with SOE Minister Deputy I, Pahala Mansury and SOE Minister Deputy II, Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, inspected TelkomGroup's infrastructure, platform and telecommunications services readiness at the venue where the G20 events will be held in Nusa Dua, Badung Regency, Bali. Telkom President Director Ririek Adriansyah, Telkom Network & IT Solution Director Herlan Wijanarko, and Telkomsel President Director Hendri Mulya Syam were also present to accompany the SOE Minister. 

SOE Minister Erick Thohir asked Telkom and Telkomsel to ensure that telecommunication infrastructure is ready for this international event. “Telkom and Telkomsel must ensure that all networks such as wifi, internet, data center, and everything needed are ready to support the G20. The network provision should be available not only in Bali, but also in other places where G20-related events will be held such as Jakarta, Labuan Bajo, and others."

The SOE Minister said Telkom dan Telkomsel have maximum preparation, as it is evident from the ground team and other infrastructures in place. "We can see that there are SNG and Combat Telkomsel. This is Mobile Combat 5G. While the G20 in Italy was still relying on 3G, in Indonesia it would be 5G. Indonesia is not inferior to Europe. Sometimes we are still sheepish, even though we are a big country. So we have to prove that we are a big country. Indonesia is not just as good," the Minister of SOE said.

During the visit, the SOE Minister and his entourage inspected the mobile Satellite News Gathering service that would accommodate TV broadcasters' needs for audio-visual shows. It is a solution for the television industry in meeting the needs of G20 activities delayed and live broadcasts. They also inspected Telkomsel's 5G BTS Compact Mobile, one of the infrastructures that supports 5G signal strengthening during the events. 

The SOE Minister also witnessed a demo of an innovative use case of 5G technology, namely the 5G Patrol Robot. Furthermore, the SOE Minister reviewed TelkomGroup's network infrastructure and services readiness at the Network Operation Center, which will serve as a monitoring center during the G20 events. This NOC will be connected to integrated national and regional monitoring centers to ensure reliable and excellent service at all points until the events are finished. 

“It is an honor for TelkomGroup to be given the task and responsibility to support connectivity in organizing international events for G20 countries' leaders. TelkomGroup is committed to ensuring that only reliable, world-class infrastructure and services are presented during the G20 events by providing the best connectivity, platforms and digital services. This will be an important milestone for TelkomGroup in its participation to support national and international state events, such as the Asia-Africa Conference, Asian Games, IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings, and PON," Telkom President Director, Ririek Adriansyah said in Nusa Dua, Bali.

To support the G20 events, Telkom is providing the backbone infrastructure for the Marine Cable Communication System (SKKL) and the Fiber Optic Communication System (SKSO) with an integrated backup system. For telecommunications services, TelkomGroup provides more than 2,000 access points at the main venue and its surroundings areas, 7,561 Telkomsel Base Transceiver Stations, and around 64 thousand ODP access connections in various locations. This service will be available in 23 venues in 15 cities throughout Indonesia where the G20 events will be held, with an end-to-end coordination from direct supervision at the site to centralized supervision involving 70 posts, as well as an infrastructure and service monitoring system using reliable and integrated IT tools. Nearly 2,000 officers and field technicians of technical and field forces are on standby 24/7 to secure the quality of service.

“With all related parties' hard work and smart work, Telkom believes that it can support in organizing and achieving the substance of the G20 events. This will be a showcase to show Indonesia's standing to the and illustrate that with digitalization, Indonesia can leapfrog to be on par with other developed countries in the world," Ririek said.
