Nusa Dua, 21 September 2022 – The 2022 Bali Annual Telkom International Conference (BATIC) international conference series officially opened Wednesday (21/9) in Nusa Dua, Bali. Telkom Commissioner Marcelino Pandin, Telkom President Director Ririek Adriansyah, Telkom Wholesale and International Service Director Bogi Witjaksono, and Telin CEO Budi Satria Dharma Purba jointly opened BATIC 2022. After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, BATIC is back and has the potential to become a showcase and collaboration event to accelerate Indonesia's digital transformation in response to the telecommunication world evolution.
This year's BATIC, themed "Reconnecting Regions, Reviving Digital Ecosystem", brought to light the Indo-Pacific's strategic position as a connectivity and digital hub, and it requires adequate and comprehensive ecosystem development to make this possible.
Telkom President Director Ririek Adriansyah said digitalization is the main factor driving the world economy and explained TelkomGroup's role in encouraging Indonesia's digitalization. "Digital transformation is a crucial aspect for increasing national competitiveness across the economy, government and society. In strengthening national digitalization, Indonesia must move. We are no longer just consumers of technology but we are building a local digital industry that will be an enabler for digitizing various vertical industries. TelkomGroup is committed to realizing this digitization by providing digital infrastructure that reaches all of Indonesia and even abroad," Ririek said.
Ririek added that Telkom has continuously contributed and will continue to contribute in supporting the government's national agenda. "We are very open to collaborating with many strategic partners who will support the company's transformation steps and jointly develop Indonesia's digitalization," Ririek said.
According to Ririek, Indonesia's digital economy has so far grown higher than other ASEAN countries and Indonesia continues to accelerate digital transformation to increase its competitiveness. The role of economic digitization is important because it is a guaranteed silver bullet for achieving all 17 SDGs targets by 2030. Moreover, digital economic growth has contributed 15.5% of global GDP, growing 2.5 times faster than the global GDP for the 15 last years.
"Several countries have also developed their national digital strategy to strengthen their economic competitiveness, such as India, China, Brazil, the European Union and Switzerland," he said.
Indonesia's digital economy is estimated to grow from 632 trillion rupiah in 2020 to 4,531 trillion rupiah in 2030 or grow eight times. The rate of national GDP grew 1.5 times from 15,400 trillion rupiah to 24,000 trillion rupiah, driven by the digital economy. Compared to the ASEAN region, the national digital economy will reach USD 323.6 billion in 2030, the largest among ASEAN countries. In addition, according to Ririek, in the last six years, Indonesia's digital competitiveness index has moved up seven places. Likewise, the network readiness index rose 13 places.
Ririek said, Indonesia has and must accelerate its digital economic transformation to strengthen its competitiveness to realize this potential. Second, in order to become a leading economy, Indonesia must transform from a consumer country into a technology producer through research and design development, ICT manufacturing, and software development as well as strengthening connectivity.
TelkomGroup, Ririek said, has contributed and continues to contribute to the national digital agenda through aggressive investment in connectivity infrastructure, developing the PeduliLindungi application that has 100 million users, creating Satu Data Indonesia platform, developing Pijar education platform with one million monthly active users, and data center with a capacity of 40MW.
In addition, TelkomGroup is developing digital services, digital platforms and digital connectivity to strengthen the digital transformation of lifestyles, government and companies. Telkom contributes to the national digital development agenda through its existing infrastructure; 171,654 km of fiber optic network, 109 transponders, 255,107 BTS, and 36,787 tower units.
