Bali, 15 November 2022 - At the B20 Summit, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) and Google Cloud have agreed on a multi-year strategic collaboration to realize Telkom's vision of becoming a leading digital telecommunications company that advances society.

Telkom aims to play an integral role in supporting Indonesia Digital 2024 and companies to achieve inclusive growth opportunities in the digital economy, which is estimated to worth US$130 billion by 2025 by combining the core competencies of Google Cloud and leveraging additional capabilities in Android, Google Ads and Grow with Google.

"At Telkom, we have a responsibility to develop smart digital infrastructure and platforms that are accessible by all people so they can contribute to nation building - while facilitating digitalization across industries," Telkom Digital Business Director Muhamad Fajrin Rasyid, said. “Telkom is working with strategic partners to support the realization of this national mandate. Google was chosen for its extensive experience in building trusted platforms and ecosystems around the world. This partnership – leveraging the main advantages of both companies – will strengthen our ability to create a leading digital ecosystem with the right talent and solutions to benefit society, and make Indonesia one of the most competitive economies in the world.”

“It is critical that we invest in building digital capabilities to reinforce our shared goal of recovering stronger from the effects of the global pandemic, and create a foundation for inclusive and sustainable growth,” Megawaty Khie, Country Director, Indonesia, Google Cloud said. “Together with Telkom, we aim to nurture skilled talent in utilizing cloud technology and connectivity to create best-in-class solutions. This will support digital transformation in every industry, whether it is to deliver people-centric public services and equitable health systems, or promote financial inclusion and manufacturing production efficiency.

The collaboration includes four important strategies:

  1. Speed up digital transformation throughout industry: Google Cloud and Telkomsigma,   a Telkom subsidiary in IT services, will partner to speed up digitization in priority sectors in accordance with the 2024 Digital Indonesia Roadmap. Telkomsigma will carry out jointly developed infrastructure modernization, applications modernization, data analysis, as well productivity and collaborative solutions to help resolve specific challenges that companies and communities face.
  2. Bridge gap national digital talent: Telkom and Google Cloud will establish a Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE) consisting of experts in cloud architecture, edge computing, data management, and applications modernization. By facilitating skills improvement programs and internal certification using the curriculum that Google uses to train its technical experts worldwide, CCoE will inspire all Telkom subsidiaries and business units. Responding to Indonesia's rising demand for advanced digital skills, CCoE will partner with Telkom CorpU - ITDRI (Indonesia Telecommunications and Digital Research Institute) – a center for digital talent development and organizational empowerment that produces the most advanced innovations – to provide a flexible training program through Google Career Certificate  scholarship. These programs will enable Indonesians to learn ready-to-work skills and develop a career in the field of data analysis, IT, project management, and design user experience (UX). Telkom also plans to provide guidance and work opportunities for graduates of Google Bangkit program, which is supported by Indonesia's Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology, and equip student with machine learning training, cloud computing, mobile devices applications development, and soft skills to prepare to find jobs in the in-demand fields and build  their career after they graduate. 
  3. Empowering Indonesian startups to grow and go global: Indonesia is  home to more than 2,400 startups , making it ranks sixth in the biggest startup ecosystem in the world. To enable even more early-stage startups in Indonesia to develop and improve their innovative business, a subsidiary of Telkom venture capital company will work with Google for Startups Cloud Program to assist those startups with more technical, business, and financial support. Through the Google Cloud Program for Startups, eligible startups could accept up to US$200,000 grants from Google Cloud and Firebase for up to two years. Startups in this program can also have access to Google Cloud engineers and experts across Google, plus getting invited to various workshops and events.
  4. Presenting intelligent infrastructure and high quality digital services: CCoE will integrate classy, secure, and environmentally-friendly Google Cloud infrastructure, as well analytics tool and advanced intelligence artificial (AI) with Telkom's extensive infrastructure network and connectivity to increase quality digital services to local consumers in metro and non-metro areas, as well market enterprise segment. Google Cloud plans to explore opportunities by using Telkom infrastructure and Telkom also gets to explore various innovation initiatives with Google's Android team to develop a cooperation for experience customer enrichment.
