Support Sustainable Environmental Sustainability Through Conservation Education Programs Based on ESG Values
Jakarta, 21 June 2023 – PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) through its Community Development Center trained dozens of the country's youngsters about natural conservation as the company ramps up its contribution and involvement in addressing climate-related challenges by rolling out conservation education programs to empower the young generation and develop their potentials.
This training is in line with Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir's direction who said that he expected state-owned enterprises' corporate social responsibility program will focus on education, environment, and micro, small and medium enterprises, especially education as it plays an important role in improving and developing a nation's human resources and conservation education could instill changes in behavior, attitudes, and ways of thinking, especially on natural resources management and ecosystem.
About 40 participants out of more than 400 people who registered were selected as participants in the conservation education program. They were selected based on their general knowledge and insights on conservation, experience, motivation, hopes, and follow-up plans or long-term goals after participating in the training.
Participants learned about general forestry, basics of conservation, types of conservation, character values of conservation, basics of ecology, waste management, search and rescue, leadership principles, Indonesian flora and fauna, cleanliness awareness, and journalism and social media engagement. They were trained by expert trainers who have scientific backgrounds and consistency in carrying out real actions according to their respective fields.
This program is in line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, especially goal 13 on climate action. The conservation education program is also the company's concrete action in realizing its target of improving education, growing awareness, and increasing human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction, and early warning.
"Telkom consistently supports sustainable environmental sustainability through various educational programs for the community. This conservation education program shows Telkom's commitment to supporting environmental sustainability through training for the younger generation to increase their awareness and care of our environment," Telkom SGM Community Development Center, Hery Susanto said.
He said he hoped this program could serve as a channel for the nation's young generation to actively contribute in efforts to deal with global environmental issues.
