Collaborating with global partners to construct a Hyperscale Data Center in Batam, Telkom is aggressively fostering inclusive collaboration across Asia and beyond.
Jakarta, 8 September 2023 - The ASEAN Indo-Pacific Forum (AIPF) on 5-6 September 2023 in Jakarta was a resounding success. As part of the 43rd ASEAN Summit, AIPF focused on promoting inclusive collaboration and cooperation among ASEAN Indo-Pacific countries to ensure broader and more equitable digital access.
As a leading digital telecommunications company with connectivity reaching over 98% of Indonesia's population, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) leveraged the AIPF momentum to advance its connectivity expansion plans. Telkom is emphasizing investments in three primary areas: connectivity, platforms, and digital services.
Indonesia stands out as one of ASEAN's markets with substantial potential demand for data centers. Recognizing this and the current undersupply in the market, Telkom is intensifying its digital platform capabilities. The hyperscale data center in Batam, integral to Telkom digitalization roadmap, is set to optimize strategic partnerships with global and regional players in ASEAN. Spanning five hectares with an IT load capacity of up to 51 megawatts, this project is a 581-million US dollars investment in collaboration with Singtel.
"We have witnessed how digital financial innovation and growth have enhanced economies and promoted economic inclusivity across ASEAN countries. Financial inclusion is not merely an economic objective but also a social imperative. We trust that discussions at the AIPF forum will yield solutions to enhance financial inclusiveness challenges in the region, thereby sustaining stability and prosperity in ASEAN," State-Owned Enterprises Deputy Minister II, Rosan Roeslani said.
Aligning with this perspective, Telkom Digital Business Director, Muhamad Fajrin Rasyid said that the ASEAN has diverse challenges in geography, demographics, talent readiness, technology, and infrastructure. Nevertheless, he said that ASEAN has enormous potential as digital adoption and the digital economy continue to expand significantly.
"Partnership and collaboration are pivotal. AIPF plays a crucial role in uniting public and private sectors, as well as global and regional players, to forge sustainable and suitable strategic partnerships for ASEAN and the Indo-Pacific," Fajrin said during a panel discussion on "Connecting Connectivity Plans in Asia and Beyond," alongside Airbus Asia-Pacific President Anand Stanley, Google Asia-Pacific VP of Government Affairs & Public Policy Michaela Browning, and A.P. Moller Singapore Pte Ltd/Maersk Managing Director Rene Piil Pedersen.
"Telkom is aggressively advancing its digital business across three core domains: digital connectivity, platforms, and services, through our Five Bold Moves transformation strategy. This strategy aims to reinforce Telkom's position as a premier global digital telecommunications company, with a long-term goal of delivering greater value," Fajrin said.
One concrete step in manifesting Telkom's commitment to its strategic goals is the implementation of the DigiCo initiative as Telkom's digitalization accelerator under the "Leap" brand. To bolster Telkom's digitalization endeavors, Leap is preparing three products through DigiCo: PaDi UMKM, a digital platform-based procurement ecosystem facilitating seamless business-to-business transactions for micro to large-scale vendors; Agree, a digital platform tailored for the agricultural ecosystem; and Logee, digitizing the transportation and distribution sector to drive Indonesia's economic advancement.
Continuing to bolster connectivity initiatives across ASEAN and the Indo-Pacific, Telkom also participated in the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Forum: Startup Connect. This program fosters exploration and collaboration between technology startups and the private sector across ASEAN. Through the Indigo and MDI Venture Program, Telkom showcased five startups at the event: Privy.id, Tax.io, Automa, MallSampah, and PRIEDS.
