Communication and Information Minister appreciates TelkomGroup's telecommunications infrastructure readiness
Labuan Bajo, 3 May 2023 – In preparation to support the success of the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) held a summit task force readiness call on Wednesday morning (3/5). TelkomGroup, led by Telkom Network & IT Solution Director, Herlan Wijanarko, conducted the call at the Telkom Labuan Bajo office, attended by employees and technicians overseeing TelkomGroup infrastructure and services security during the 2023 ASEAN Summit.
"Telkom has prepared infrastructure, including backup and telecommunications services, ready to meet the surge in traffic on the day of the summit. Overall, Telkom has secured the submarine and land optical cable communication systems, prepared Telkomsel base transceiver stations (BTS) with 4G and 5G coverage, and increased bandwidth capacity. Network preparations from Telkom are complete, but integration processes with key venues such as the main venue and media center are ongoing," Telkom Network & IT Solution Director, Herlan Wijanarko said.
Telkom has readied telecommunications network infrastructure via marine optical cables, land optical cables, and microwave radio, boasting a total bandwidth capacity of 70 gigabit per second (Gbps) with multiple redundant lines. Additionally, Telkomsel operates 48 base transceiver stations supporting both 4G and 5G, ready to serve over 70 thousand users, 209 access points, and 3 satellite news gathering units. The main venue for the 2023 ASEAN Summit has been equipped with network infrastructure capable of handling up to 2x10 Gbps. A team of 300 personnel will manage command posts, conference areas, and field operations to ensure service quality remains exceptional during this significant event.
Communication and Information Minister, Johnny G. Plate, and Chief of Presidential Staff, Moeldoko, commended TelkomGroup’s readiness ahead of the 2023 ASEAN Summit during their visit to the TelkomGroup network operation center (NOC) in Labuan Bajo just before the ceremony. The NOC serves as the command post and central monitoring hub for all TelkomGroup infrastructure and services for the summit.
In his remarks, the Communication and Information Minister said that digital infrastructure would showcase Indonesia capabilities at the 2023 ASEAN Summit, directly impacting the experience of attending leaders and delegates. "We expect prime performance from telecommunications infrastructure. This serves as our demonstration of successful development in the telecommunications and digital sectors. Let's ensure its success," the Communication and Information Minister said, urging Telkom to prepare for natural disasters and ensure infrastructure backup routes.
"Not only do TelkomGroup services offer diverse communication channels, but they are also equipped with next generation firewalls to counter cyber attacks. With our infrastructure and operational readiness in terms of personnel, processes, and tools, we are confident and prepared to fully support this pivotal national event, which promises significant opportunities for businesses, society, and Indonesia as a whole," Herlan said.
