Batam, 13 November 2023 – PT Telkom Data Ekosistem (NeutraDC), a data center company and a subsidiary of PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom), highlights Batam's importance as a center for data center growth in Southeast Asia's data center industry. This was conveyed by the CEO of PT Teknologi Data Infrastruktur (NeutraDC Batam), Indrama YM Purba.

According to him, one of the key points in developing the data center industry is to pay attention to the importance of reliable infrastructure and supportive investment policies. "Batam offers unique opportunities with its strategic position being close to global financial centers such as Singapore and other neighboring countries. Additionally, Batam, especially in Kabil, has a geographically safe condition from earthquakes, making it an ideal location to build data center facilities," Indrama said during a panel discussion titled Data Center Industry in Batam Market Outlook at the Indonesia Global Connectivity Summit 2023, held in Batam State Polytechnic from 7-9 November 2023. Indrama also shared during this occasion, insights on Batam's significant potential to become a leading technology hub in the region.

NeutraDC also unveiled its expansion plans in Batam by building a hyperscale data center at the Kabil Integrated Industrial Estate (KIIE) Batam with an ultimate capacity of 51 MW IT load (initial phase of 17 MW) using the green data center concept, for both the Batam and Singapore data centers.

Indrama said that NeutraDC's decision to plan for a data center in Batam is to capitalize on the significant potential offered by this market. "We are very excited to announce NeutraDC's involvement in developing the data center industry in Batam. This decision is based on an in-depth analysis of the market and its remarkable potential in Batam. We believe that collaboration with local stakeholders will bring positive benefits to all parties involved," he said.

The data center industry market in Batam is increasingly promising with very encouraging growth potential. According to recent research conducted by industry experts, Batam offers tremendous opportunities for data center companies looking to expand their operations in Southeast Asia.

The rapidly evolving digital world requires high-quality and adequate digital ecosystem facilities to support sectors such as e-commerce, cloud computing, IoT (Internet of Things), and others. Batam is a strategically located region for connectivity from Southeast Asia to Indonesia via Singapore. Meanwhile, data centers play a vital role as the backbone for the functioning of the digital ecosystem. Demand for data centers is expected to grow significantly in the coming years.

The Hyperscale Data Center (HDC) Batam will be built on approximately five hectares of land, with a total of three globally standardized campuses. In the initial phase of development, it will start with an IT load of around five megawatts in 2025 and will continue to increase according to demand. HDC Batam will not only serve various domestic business needs but also serve as one of the entry points for hyperscalers into Indonesia.

In developing the data center in Batam, NeutraDC, as a subsidiary of TelkomGroup, collaborates with the Singaporean telecommunications company, ST Dynamo ID Pte Ltd (a Singtel affiliate), and the energy company, PT Medco Power Indonesia. This collaboration represents a strong partnership and aligns with its role in building data centers.

Having data centers in Batam will complement the digital ecosystem owned by NeutraDC. Currently, NeutraDC already operates three enterprise-scale data centers located in Sentul, Serpong, and Surabaya, with tier III and IV classifications, as well as a hyperscale data center in Cikarang with tier III and IV classifications.
