Jakarta, 4 February 2022 – Digital inclusion is one of the main themes and goals that Indonesia aims to achieve during its G20 Presidency until the end of 2022. In order to create an all-digital world for all, there should be a collective action that all parties, including the business sector and governments of various countries around the world, must take.

Indonesia manifested its efforts to realize digital inclusion in the world by establishing the Indonesia B20 Digitization Task Force in 2022. President Director of PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk Ririek Adriansyah leads this task force, with members consisting of representatives from 32 countries and business players from more than 22 various industrial sectors.

“It is an honor and a great responsibility to represent the Digitalization Task Force this year, and we look forward to collaborating with a group of individuals from diverse backgrounds, representing 32 countries and over 22 different industries. We believe that together we can collaborate to produce policies that have a positive impact and we can follow up," Ririek said when speaking as a panelist in one of the sessions on the second day of the Inception Meeting B20 Indonesia, Friday last week.

According to Ririek, realizing digital inclusion is necessary since the current digitalization has changed the pattern of life and human interaction. However, in the midst of the rapidly flowing digitalization, there are still some elements in society that have not enjoyed the positive impact of technology and the digital world. Therefore, business players and the government must be more active in collaborating to provide digital infrastructure that can be accessed by anyone, anytime, and anywhere in order to close the gap.

“This is in line with one of the goals of the G20 Indonesia Presidency; to promote digital inclusion, which means accelerating the integration of the underprivileged into the digital economy ecosystem. In order to do this, business people and governments across the G20 member countries must agree on a common vision, and have a common understanding of what digital inclusion is," Ririek said.

The Indonesian B20 Digitization Task Force has four work priorities this year. First, Digital for Economic Health and National Resiliency. This came into focus in a bid to build a digital ecosystem that is beneficial for the economy and national security.

Second, Digital Infrastructure and Platforms, to encourage the creation of equitable digital infrastructure and platforms, in order to open up more opportunities for people, especially in remote and disadvantaged areas, to grow.

Third, Digital Entrepreneurship in order to increase the participation of macro, small, medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the digital economy, and improve the community's digital capabilities. Lastly, Ensuring Safety in Digital Spaces or ensuring the creation of comprehensive protection for internet users in various countries.

The four work priorities of the Indonesian B20 Digitization Task Force emerged after the team noticed many challenges emerged from the current rapid flow of digitization. These challenges include the wide digital access gap, low public digital literacy, low financing for digital infrastructure, and increasing concerns regarding cyber attacks that are increasingly occurring.

“There are several challenges that arise as a result of digitalization in today's world, and solutions to overcome them are urgently needed to strengthen the growth and prosperity of an inclusive society. I am sure, with the guidance and expertise of the leaders and members of the Task Force, we can recommend policies to be followed up and have a positive impact on the world,” Ririek said.
