Jakarta, 30 March 2022 – PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) continues to support Indonesia's digitalization that is taking place more rapidly due to the Covid-19 pandemic. One form of Telkom's support for realizing Indonesia's digital sovereignty is by building various digitalization support infrastructures such as data centers and cloud computing .

Telkom President Director Ririek Adriansyah reaffirmed this commitment to support digitization in Indonesia during the 'Digitalization of the Archipelago Expo & Summit 2022' that the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized in Surakarta, Central Java, Tuesday (29/3) in which President Joko Widodo was in attendance.

In the event, which is part of B20 side events specifically about the Digitalization task force, Ririek said that people are adapting their lives quickly to changes brought by the pandemic. Nowadays more and more people are accustomed to working remotely, studying online, and accessing various types of digital entertainment and shopping using market shops, and it is believed that most of these habits will continue after the pandemic.

"Indonesia's digitalization can boost national productivity to US$120 billion by 2025. There are many benefits that digitization brings to various sectors, such as opening up more job opportunities, creating better efficiency and services, and widening public access to the best services," Ririek said.

The impact of the digitalization acceleration caused by Covid-19 has made Indonesia able to survive the current pandemic. As the largest digital telco in Indonesia, Telkom has also been able to maintain a positive performance during the pandemic thanks to the digital transformation that has been and continues to be carried out.

To increase the positive impact of digitization on society, Telkom has helped accelerate the development of various infrastructures needed at the national and regional levels. Telkom is involved in one of them, to construct data centers and cloud computing, which are among the 10 national priority agendas to realize Indonesia's digital sovereignty.

“Regardless of the industry, cloud technology will serve as an important enabler by providing a means for businesses to innovate with new technologies. Cloud makes business flexible and secure. This infrastructure also supports industrial automation and connects data from machines, people, and objects through big data, simulation, and additive manufacturing,” Ririek, who is also the Head of the B20 Digitization Task Force said.

The need for data centers in the world, especially the Southeast Asia region, is expected to continue to increase in the next few years. It is even estimated that, compared to 2020, the data center market will double or triple by 2025.

Market demand for data centers must be met with adequate infrastructure. Therefore, Telkom has and will continue to build and increase the capacity of the data centers it manages. Telkom now owns and manages 27 data centers at home and abroad. Telkom is also building a Hyperscale Data Center (HDC) with a total capacity of 75 MW and will be capable of accommodating 10 thousand racks. Telkom sets a target to start operating the first phase of the HDC with a capacity of 22 MW in the second quarter of 2022.

Telkom hopes that it can support the target to secure Indonesia’s sovereignty in the digital world and it will benefit all levels of society.
