In relation to the occurrence of the earthquake measuring 6.5 magnitudes in Aceh around 5:03 pm, Wednesday (07/12/2016), PT Telkom Indonesia (Telkom) reported that the telecommunications network runs normally. "As far as telecommunications services in Aceh are safe, smooth and under control," said Vice President Corporate Communication Telkom, Arif Prabowo in Jakarta.

According to Arif, Telkom works normally without significant interferences. However, technicians and Telkom in Aceh continue to monitor the situation to ensure uninterrupted service. "In the nearest location of the epicenter at the moment, namely in the district of Pidie, there are two STO (Automatic Telephone Central) owned by Telkom, namely STO STO Samalanga and tuneful. Currently, both the STO operating normally despite uninterruptible power supplies and currently operates with a generator, "said Arif Prabowo.
 
Furthermore, he explained, although the fiber optic backbone lines were reported safe, Telkom continues to monitor and check the situation on the ground, especially at critical points in the quake.
 
Arif added, it pays special attention to the sustainability of telecommunications services in Aceh. "We realize that in an emergency situation such as this, telecommunication facilities are indispensable, especially for emergency response," he said. Regarding the communication traffic Arif could explain an increase in telecommunications traffic to and from Aceh.
 
To assist in disaster-struck communities in Aceh, Telkom cooperation with local authorities will soon establish a common kitchen shelters, provide medical personnel and medicines as well as telecommunication services for free.
 
In connection with the earthquake in Aceh, TelkomGroup is still monitoring the telecommunication facilities (fastel). "May the people of Aceh and its surroundings are always under the protection of Allah so that everything is given safety," said Arif.
