Jakarta, 5 October 2021 –  Consumer Service Director of PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) Venusiana accompanied the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Erick Thohir to visit arts, culture, and education communities that IndiHome foster in Papua, after attending the opening of the XX National Sports Week (PON) 2021 last Saturday (2/10).

"As the internet of Indonesia, IndiHome is committed to realizing equal distribution of digital connectivity from Aceh to Papua, and determined to connect happiness and present real solutions for the Papuans through the best digital platforms and services," Venusiana said when welcoming the SOE Minister in Jayapura, Papua. (3/10).

On that occasion, Erick and Venusiana had a chat with Mama Ibo, the founder of Batik Papua 'Pondok Putri Dobonsolo' who explained about the carving process of Papuan batik, inspired by Javanes batik. According to Mama Ibo, what makes Papuan batik is the distinctive carvings with Papuan icons, such as the Bird of Paradise. Mama Ibo also explained that IndiHome service is very useful for her.

The SOE Minister also visited another IndiHome-fostered community, the Tifa Workshop, which has an important role in preserving the traditional Papuan musical instrument 'Tifa'. According to Denis Koibur, the founder of Tifa Workshop, apart from producing Tifa, the workshop also produces Wai Ron, a traditional Biak boat used by the ancestors of the Biak tribe to sail across the ocean. Wai Ron is also used to take part in the War Boat Festival in Samarai, Papua New Guinea.

For the Biak tribe, Wai Ron boat is a sacred symbol of the Biak culture, including their facial tattoos which are also part of the characteristics of Papua's Biak tribe. This is how Tifa Workshop, led by Deni, plays a role.

The SOE Minister also witnessed and appreciated IndiHome's contribution in supporting the continuation of education for Papua's younger generation through its assistance to Sayap Kasih Orphanage Foundation, Kampung Harapan, and the Sentani District of Jayapura, Papua.

“You are the future assets of Papua, don't be afraid to dream, I am sure that one day there will be leaders who originate here, as I myself never thought I would become a minister," Erick Thohir said to encourage the orphans that IndiHome foster at the Sayap Kasih Orphanage Foundation in Jayapura, Papua.

As part of the celebrations to mark the opening of PON XX Papua 2021, IndiHome held music and arts performances at seven booths at several PON XX venues. The performances featured talents that IndiHome foster, namely Marcelina Murtya Umar, winner of the Gita and Nada Papua competition with IndiHome on 30 April  2021. As the show garnered more audience and became more lively, the mostly children and teenage spectators joined in to sing happily as they watched the performance of Vans Palara Dance Studio. Vans Palara means nature lover.
