Jakarta, 6 July 2022 - Digitalization is taking place rapidly in Indonesian people's lives, notably in the past two years. As the leading digital telecommunication company in Indonesia, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) has been and will continue to assist equal distribution and to improve the quality of the ongoing digitalization.
The continuing transformation must be based on a determination to encourage the realization of Indonesia's digital sovereignty. There are at least three domains that must be created to achieve digital sovereignty, namely environment, society, and digital economy.
Meeting the demands for an evenly-distributed telecommunications infrastructure is one of the ways to establish a digital sphere. Based on Ministry of Finance data, from 2019 to 2022 the state invested for digital Infrastructure development by allocating up to 75 trillion rupiah in the state budget.
The government is not the only party that rolls out efforts to build a superb and evenly-dispersed digital infrastructure. As of December 2021, Telkom has assisted in providing various infrastructure including 170,885 kilometers of fiber optic cable that stretches across the archipelago, 251,116 Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), and 14.1 million optical ports that connect 8.6 million IndiHome subscribers with the world through the internet.
Taking into account the community's condition is also required in establishing digital sovereignty. Improving the community's digital literacy and inclusion is necessary to increase the digitization quality. Referring to the Ministry of Communication and Informatics data, Indonesia's digital literacy index is 3.49 out of 0 to 5 score. This indicates that the community's digital literacy level is maturing and is set to become a solid capital in order to compete in the society 5.0 era.
Telkom has made efforts to foster a strong digital society by providing various products and services. Through collaboration with various parties and SOEs, Telkom seeks to improve digital literacy through development of PeduliLindung application, assistance via Rumah BUMN or State-Owned Enterprise Houses, providing Amoeba and Indigo incubation facilities, and many other efforts.
The digital environment and society can stimulate the formation of a strong digital economy ecosystem. Through digitalization, people's living standards can increase and have a positive impact on Indonesia's economic growth. According to reports from Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company, in 2021 the value of digital transactions in the Indonesian e-commerce sector reached 1,000 trillion rupiah or US$70 billion. This figure is predicted to continue to increase to US$146 billion by 2025.
Developing a digital economy requires various digital products and services that community and business players can use. Therefore, Telkom has presented a number of solutions such as PaDi UMKM (MSMEs), Agree (agriculture and fisheries), Logee (Logistics), BigBox (One Data Indonesia), MySooltan, and many other digital services.
"We offer a variety of digital services, digital platforms, and digital connectivity products and services to realize Telkom's vision to become the community's preferred digital telco. By collaborating with various parties, Telkom wants to form a more prosperous and competitive Indonesia and provides the best added value for society and the country. Telkom has been present for 57 years and will continue to develop a better Indonesia through digitalization," Telkom President Director Ririek Adriansyah said.
Telkom has three missions to assist companies in realizing this vision. First, Telkom wants to accelerate the development of sustainable, economic, smart, and accessible-to-all digital infrastructure and platforms. Second, developing digital talent to encourage people's ability and level of digital adoption. Third, lead the formation of a digital ecosystem that provides the best experience for users.
“The future of Indonesia would depend on how well the country is capable of optimizing its wealth and potential in the digital realm. With the best talent, qualified technology, and a strong business ecosystem, Indonesia can become a major economic player in the region and even the world in the next few years. Telkom will stand with the people and the Indonesian government to realize these ideals," Ririek Adriansyah said.
This year, Telkom chose the “Digital Can be for Everyone” theme to commemorate its 57th anniversary. This theme describes Telkom's passion and big dream to accelerate the realization of the citizens' dreams through digitalization in various fields. Telkom calls on Indonesian citizens to dare to dream and create innovations, because all the best innovations stem from a dream.
Telkom Indonesia, for a Better Indonesia!
