Preparing Information and Communication Technology Services for Equitable Digital Connectivity in Indonesia

Jakarta, 2 November 2023 – PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom), through its subsidiary Telkomsat, which provides satellite-based telecommunications services, consistently strives to achieve equitable digital connectivity across remote areas of Indonesia. This effort aims to provide fast internet signals to regions not covered by cable, fiber optic, and wireless networks, especially in eastern Indonesia.

Telkomsat offers high-speed internet services with download speeds up to 180 Mbps and upload speeds up to 20 Mbps. These services target micro, small, and medium enterprises, business entities, healthcare services, and government agencies in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost areas of eastern Indonesia.

Lukman Hakim Abd. Rauf, CEO of Telkomsat, said that approximately 100 local internet service providers have subscribed to MangoStar, with 50% located in eastern Indonesia. "Telkomsat aims to serve at least 1,000 locations managed by micro, small, and medium enterprises and local internet service providers in eastern Indonesia. Through this initiative, micro, small, and medium enterprises and local internet service providers can cater to tens to hundreds of customers," Lukman said.

MangoStar is one of Telkomsat's flagship products, offering advanced connectivity performance tailored to the needs of micro, small, and medium enterprises and internet service providers. The product has experienced rapid customer growth, increasing tenfold between 2022 and 2023.

In a recent development, Telkomsat launched MangoStar Maritime in early September 2023, targeting the maritime sector with 24/7 Network Monitoring System facilities and download speeds of up to 180 Mbps and uploads of 20 Mbps. Telkomsat's VSAT Star facilities also support high-speed internet services for telecommunications needs at the Papua Mountain Province Communications and Information Service Agency.

Lukman said that Telkomsat's initiatives align with the government's digital equality program in Indonesia. "We continuously leverage Telkomsat's capabilities within the TelkomGroup to support government efforts in achieving digital equality," he said.

Furthermore, Lukman said that Telkomsat has established nine Gateways and one point of presence to ensure comprehensive connectivity across Indonesia since August 2022. "Telkomsat remains committed to delivering excellent service to all Indonesians. Therefore, we are open to collaborating and providing satellite-based communication solutions to other internet service providers," Lukman said.
