TelkomGroup’s Commitment to Uphold Indonesia’s Sovereignty Through Telecommunications Resulted in Bintang Jasa Nararya Medal

Telkom President Director Ririek Adriansyah (left) received the Bintang Jasa Nararya medal from President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (right) in Jakarta, Thursday (13/8). The State Secretariat organized the ceremony to bestow the honor, which was awarded in recognizition of TelkomGroup’s achievement in fulfilling the country’s telecommunications sovereignty by massively introducing fixed and cellular phone services in the outermost, frontier and disadvantaged regions and developing international telecommunications infrastructure that ended Indonesia’s dependence on neighboring countries, so that people from all levels of the Indonesian society have the same and equal access to information and become the locomotive for the country’s digitalization as part of the efforts to stimulate Indonesia’s digital economy. 

 

 

Jakarta, 14 August 2020 – President Joko Widodo awarded Telkom President Director Ririek Adriansyah with the Bintang Jasa Nararya medal at the State Palace in a ceremony that the State Secretariat organized (13/8). Ririek was honored with the award in recognizition of TelkomGroup’s efforts to fulfill the country’s telecommunications sovereignty by massively introducing fixed and cellular phone services in the outermost, frontier and disadvantaged (3T) regions and developing international telecommunications infrastructure that abolished Indonesia’s dependence on neighboring countries, so that people from all levels of the Indonesian society have the same and equal access to information and become the pioneers for the country’s digitalization as part of the efforts to stimulate Indonesia’s digital economy. 

With its capabilities as a state-owned telecommunications company, TelkomGroup provides connectivity in remote areas across Indonesia through the Indonesia Digital Network program. Telkom develops telecommunications infrastructure on land, sea and air by installing a digital backbone infrastructure that connects Sabang to Merauke, developing digital access networks for all levels of society, and deploying satellites to connect remote areas. Telkom, through Telkomsel, as of May 2019, has developed massive cellular services by constructing 11,719 the Merah Putih Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) in the 3T regions covering 1,792 villages in 284 districts.

Telkom also has IndiHome, a fixed broadband service that enables the public in accessing information and obtaining quality content. IndiHome is available in 496 cities and serves more than 7.45 million customers. IndiHome is continuously expanding and strengthening its network to the outer islands, including Rote Island, where its services was launched in Rote Ndao district in East Nusa Tenggara province on September 2019. Telkom was eager to provide equal access to telecommunications and information, fixed broadband and cellular services that everyone from those living in big cities to those living in the 3T regions cnan benefit from and has the same amout of access to information.

It was not enough for TelkomGroup to just develop domestic infrastructure, it also actively took part in developing international telecommunication infrastructure, making the nation to end its dependence on neighboring countries, be independent, and have sovereignty over access to information and global telecommunications, aligning Telkom with global telecommunications operators and making it a dominant operator in the region. With such a footing, TelkomGroup will become a Global Digital Hub, which can connect Europe, Asia to America. TelkomGroup has also been expanding its international business by establishinh representative offices in nine countries to make it more convenient for Indonesians living abroad.

In 2020, Telkom rigorously transformed into a digital telecommunication company with a vision to become the digital telco of choice to advancing the society, and it can realize a more prosperous and competitive nation. In line with this transformation, the company plans to focus on three digital business domains, namely digital connectivity, digital platforms and digital services.

Digital business is a disruption on many things, but it also opens up many opportunities that on a large scale can have a positive impact to the nation’s debelopment. Digitalization enables us to move ahead more quickly to be on part with other nations and to connect people in various remote areas to education, health, financial services and various other sectors, which spur Indonesia to be more developed and prosperous.

Telkom will continue to strengthen its position as a market leader in digital connectivity, to accelerate digital platform services and to selectively develop its digital services. By focusing on digitization programs, Telkom is ready to support Indonesia as an independent country with telecommunications sovereignty and to become the largest digital economy power in Southeast Asia in 2025.
