Telkom Financial Report Quarter I/2023: Focused on Transformation and Profitability, Telkom's Operating Profit Grows 7.7%

Jakarta, 29 April 2023 – PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) has started 2023 with outstanding performance. The company reported revenues of 36.1 trillion rupiah, marking a 2.5% year-on-year growth, alongside earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) of 18.9 trillion rupiah. Notably, Telkom's profitability has strengthened, with net profit increasing by 5.0% compared to the same period last year, reaching 6.4 trillion rupiah.

"This year, Telkom will aggressively implement the five bold moves strategy, namely fixed mobile convergence (FMC), Data Center Co, Infra Co, business-to-business Digital IT Service Co, and DigiCo, to create optimal value and ensure the company's sustainability in the future. The performance in the first three months of 2023 is a promising start and motivates TelkomGroup to strive for continued excellence and contributions to the company, customers, society, and the country," Telkom President Director Ririek Adriansyah said.

In the mobile segment, Telkomsel, a subsidiary of Telkom, achieved revenues of 21.5 trillion rupiah, reflecting a 1.1% growth from the same period last year. Digital business played a significant role in this growth, contributing 84.4% of total revenue. This segment saw a positive growth of 7.1% year on year, reaching 18.2 trillion rupiah compared to the same period in 2022. Telkomsel served 151.1 million customers, with data payload growing by 11.0% year on year to 4,217,405 terabyte, and payload consumption per data service user reaching 12,324 megabyte, up 11.7% year-on-year.

On 6 April 2023, Telkom signed a conditional spin-off agreement to integrate IndiHome into Telkomsel, a move aligned with the five bold moves strategy, specifically FMC which aims to diversify broadband services, strengthen business operations, and promote digital inclusion in Indonesia.

Following the integration, TelkomGroup's business to consumer operations will be fully managed by Telkomsel, while Telkom will concentrate on the business to business segment. Concurrently, there was a shift in ownership composition at Telkomsel, with Singtel's effective ownership reduced to 30.1% and Telkom's increased to 69.9%.

In the Consumer segment, IndiHome achieved revenues of 7.2 trillion rupiah, reflecting a 5.0% growth from the same period last year, contributing 19.9% to the Company's total revenue with stable EBITDA around 50%. IndiHome's customer base grew by 7.0% to 9.4 million customers, with 65% dual play and 35% triple play customers. IndiHome's average revenue per user (ARPU) falls within the 264 thousand rupiah price range.

In the Enterprise segment, Telkom recorded revenues of 4.5 trillion rupiah, up 7.8% year on year, driven by  business-to-business digital IT services and enterprise connectivity. Telkom continues to enhance its cloud business capabilities through strategic partnerships with global technology leaders, focusing on delivering top quality digital solutions to customers. Meanwhile, revenue from the Wholesale and International segment grew by 4.0% year-on-year to 4.0 trillion rupiah, supported by growth in international wholesale voice services and digital infrastructure.

In the tower business, Telkom's subsidiary Mitratel closed the first quarter of 2023 with ownership of 36,439 tower units and a tenancy ratio of 1.46 times. Mitratel achieved revenues of 2.1 trillion rupiah, up 9.9% year-on-year, primarily driven by tower rental revenues. EBITDA and net profit for the first three months of the year grew by 16.2% and 9.1% respectively. To strengthen its portfolio, Mitratel expanded its fiber to the tower business by deploying 19,496 kilometers of optical fiber and acquiring an additional 6,012 kilometers of cable.

As of the end of March 2023, total capital expenditure reached 7.4 trillion rupiah, equivalent to 20.6% of total revenue. These investments are focused on enhancing telecommunications network infrastructure to deliver an improved digital experience for customers. In the fixed business, capital expenditure supports the development of fiber optic access, submarine cable infrastructure, as well as projects related to telecommunications towers and data centers. Additionally, investments are directed towards enhancing the quality and capacity of the 4G network, advancing 5G technology, and strengthening IT systems.
