Jakarta, 23 December 2021 –  Indonesia's digital industry has been developing very fast in recent years. The role of the digital industry in supporting economic growth is increasingly significant. The public high adoption of technology especially during the pandemic, is one of the factors that accelerates Indonesia's digital industry development. The industry is expected to be one of the drivers of the economy, especially in supporting the large number of micro, small, medium enterprises (MSME) in Indonesia.

Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) is well aware of technological developments and current challenges as it continues to accelerate the company's digital transformation and is committed to be the locomotive in supporting the realization of Indonesia's digital sovereignty. Telkom also continues to initiate a digital environment, develop a digital society and accelerate the digital economy. One of Telkom's commitments to initiate and develop a digital society is by launching the Digital Generation Acceleration movement.

The #AkselerasiGenerasiDigital is a collaborative movement to develop talent, innovation, start-up companies, and soonicorn (soon to be unicorns) that strengthens and accelerates the progress development of Indonesia's digital economy ecosystem. Indonesia's President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo launched the #AccelerationGenerationDigital movement on Wednesday (15/12) at the Jakarta Convention Center. There three ways to accelerate digital generation, namely preparing digital talents through the micro credential program from the Ministry of Education and Culture which includes the Merdeka Learning program - Merdeka Campus; preparing future young generations with comprehensive digital briefing by involving state-owned enterprises (SOEs) for training and mentoring activities through the Indonesia Digital Tribe program; and preparing funding for home-grown startups through the SOE Ministry's Merah Putih Fund.

President Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia must prepare a strategy, such as developing digital talent, in order to catch up with other countries, according to a press release on the Presidential Secretariat website. The President also asked all big companies to support the younger generation in developing their digital competency.

Indonesia Digital Tribe (IDT) is a digital entrepreneurship program for Indonesia's young generation. It is a collaboration between the SOE Ministry, Narasi, ITDRI, Telkom, BRI, and Bank Mandiri and is aimed to prepare young Indonesian digital talents to be ready in contributing and working as digital-ready talents or digital entrepreneurs, in order to support accelerating the growth of Indonesi's digital economy.

Telkom President Director, Ririek Adriansyah said, "Amidst the rapid technological developments, the community has no choice but to adapt to these changes in order to survive. Moreover, the pandemic has accelerated the pace of public digital adoption as well as digital transformation roughly seven years faster. So it is necessary to maximize digitalization in order to leapfrog and align Indonesia with other developed countries. For this reason, Telkom is here to encourage digitalization through the provision of digital connectivity, platforms and services.”

Ririek said Telkom has established the Indonesia Telecommunication and Digital Research Institute (ITDRI) as a manifestation of Telkom's commitment to develop a more prosperous, independent and competitive nation through integrated research, innovation and learning that utilizes the latest technology. “ITDRI has contributed to the emergence of superior digital talents with international standards. Hopefully it would become a center for learning, innovation, and research through digital platforms and would produce millions of digital talents across Indonesia, so that these young digital talents will strengthen Indonesia's digital economy in the future," Ririek said. ITDRI will play an active role in running the Indonesia Digital Tribe program.

Moreover, the Merah Putih Fund is a venture capital initiated by the SOE Ministry to develop a startup ecosystem in Indonesia. The Merah Putih Venture Fund is managed by five SOE corporate venture capital consisting of Mandiri Capital Indonesia, MDI Ventures, Telkomsel Mitra Innovation, BRI Ventures, and BNI Ventures. Merah Putih Fund targets to manage up to $300 million funds, and will later invest in Soonicorn (soon to be Unicorn) in Indonesia.

Lastly, the Micro Credential is a certified independent internship and study program that the Education, Culture, Research and Technology Ministry initiated and is aimed to develop experienced human resources so that they can directly enter the real world or industry in the artificial intelligence field to face challenges, industrial revolution 4.0 and Society 5.0.

"Telkom believes that digitalization and collaboration with all parties, such as business people, the government, institutions and others can make Indonesia even better," Ririek said.
