Maripay, Digital Solution to Facilitate Indonesian Migrant Workers' Financial Transactions In Malaysia

The launch of Maripay, a collaboration between Finnet, Digital Switch and MPay, which was held in Pullman Hotel, Jakarta last week.

 

Jakarta, 9 November 2022 - A subsidiary of PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) PT Finnet Indonesia (Finnet) forged a collaboration with Suis Digital and Mpay to develop Maripay, a user-friendly application for Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia PMI, which would make it easier for millions of Indonesian migrant workers employed in various industrial sectors in Malaysia, notably in the plantation sector, whom have been reported to have obstacles in conducting financial transaction. 

 

Indonesia's central bank Bank Indonesia data shows there are at least 1.85 million Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia. Maripay is a mobile application-based electronic wallet service that facilitates payment transactions, purchases and sending money from Malaysia to Indonesia with support from Mandiri International Remittance Shd. Bhd (MIR) for the Maripay operational prefund process from Malaysia to Indonesia.

 

The app, developed by Indonesia developers, was launched in Pullman Hotel, Jakarta, with Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Hermono, President Commissioner of Finnet Difi Ahmad Johansyah, President Director of Finnet Rakhmad Tunggal Afifuddin, CEO of Telin Malaysia Devy Parlindungan Siregar, President Director of Mandiri International Remittance Shd. Bhd (MIR) Lugiyem, CEO of MPAY Dato Chew Chee Seng, and other members of the board of directors were in attendance at the event.

 

President Director of Finnet Rakhmad Tunggal Afifuddin said Maripay offers various digital solutions to make it easier for Indonesian migrant workers to conduct financial transactions. "Maripay is has many features, one of which is sending money from Malaysia to Indonesia, so Indonesian migrant workers will no longer have difficulty in sending money, they can send money directly from where they work without having to queue, and their families in Indonesia can also withdraw funds at convenient stores such as Indomaret or through a bank that is connected with Finnet. They also don't have to worry about currency conversions, because the money transferred is immediately converted from Malaysian Ringgit to Indonesian Rupiah," Rakhmad said.

 

Indonesian migrant workers have long encountered problems when it comes to sending money to Indonesia, such as long queues, high admin fees and having to do it in transaction counters, in addition to the need to pay monthly bills at home. Maripay provides remittance solutions that can be made anywhere via a mobile application. In addition, the monthly bill payment feature for services in Indonesia such pay tv services IndiHome and MNC Vision, utility bill at PLN, universal health coverage BPJS Kesehatan, Halo SIM cards and credit vouchers) and in Malaysia (Maxim, Digi, XOXO, Celcom, RedONE and other providers) is also one of Maripay's added-values. The admin fees it charges are much lower and money transfers are made in real-time. The wired money can be withdrawn at Indomaret and transferred to all bank accounts in Indonesia that are connected to Finnet.

 

"Indonesian migrant workers also don't need to worry about how their families back home would pay their monthly bills, as Maripay has provided the digital solution for it. They can pay their monthly bills, and buy vouchers too through the app,” Rakhmad said. 

 

Indonesian Ambassador in Malaysia Hermono said he appreciated Maripay's innovation to provide the best solution for Indonesian migrant workers PMI in Malaysia. "Thank you Finnet, Telkom and related parties for their attention to Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia. It is our concern to always protect Indonesian citizens in Malaysia, provide security and convenience while they work in Malaysia. I hope we can always elevate this collaboration in the future,” he said.

 

In line with the G20 vision, Telkom as a company undergoing transformation into a digital telco supports digitalization on all fronts, including those who generate remittance from Malaysia.

 

On a separate occasion, Telkom Strategic Portfolio Director Budi Setyawan Wijaya said, "Telkom President Director Ririek Adriansyah on October 18 at a G20 event said Telkom will focus on developing digitalization in all fronts. Maripay is a manifestation of our roles in realizing Telkom's vision, not only digitizing but providing benefits for Indonesian migrant workers.
