Increasing the Young Generation's Competitiveness, Telkom Gets Education Digitization Going in Tarutung

Tarutung, 20 May 2022 - The education sector is one of the Government's main focus that it will continuously develop this year, as improving the quality of education is expected to nurture the emergence of the nation's future best talents. As a state-owned telecommunications company, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) is committed to take part in accelerating education improvement in Indonesia, especially through digitalization. Telkom has consistently carried out this commitment from one year to another, with the desire that the nation's younger and future generation can have equal access to education across Indonesia, even in remote areas.

This time, Telkom introduces education digitalization at the privately-owned HKBP 1 High School (SMAS) and the Siatas Barita State Vocational High School (SMKN) 1, Tarutung, North Sumatra, marked by State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir, Telkom President Director Ririek Adriansyah, and Telkomsel Sales Director Adiwinahyu Basuki Sigit's visit and a symbolic handover of support for education digitalization on Thursday (19/05). The digitization assistance provided to the schools and received by the Principals of SMAS HKBP 1 Tarutung and SMKN 1 Siatas Barita is a computer laboratory consisting of computer equipment for schools and laptops for teachers as well as providing internet access. In addition, Telkom also provides Pijar Sekolah (School Incandescent) service, a digital learning platform that include teaching and learning processes, school management systems, and learning content.

Minister of SOEs spoke to students who attended the event and said that the challenge for Indonesia's young generation is to be ready to face changes and to comprehend technology. Minister Erick also encourages acceleration education digitalization as a strategy to anticipate digital disruption. “Today, the challenge for Indonesia's young generation is to prepare themselves in the digital era and anticipate change by being part of the change itself. It's time for the younger generation and the education sector to come forward, so that we are no longer foam in this digital disruption era, we have to come forward, take part and become the wave," Erick Thohir said.

Principal of SMAS HKBP 1 Tarutung Tumbur Silaban, S.Pd, M.M. conveyed his gratitude for the Ministry of SOEs and Telkom's support to encourage improvement of education in Indonesia, especially at SMAS HKBP 1 Tarutung. "Hopefully Telkom's assistance can help learning at our school HKBP 1 Tarutung High, so that in future and current students would know and understand more about information technology and technology."

The SOE Minister also got together with 300 students of SMAS HBKP 1 Tarutung. Apart from having a discussion, the students took this rare moment to show their artistic and sporting talents by performing the tor-tor dance, sports, and singing in a vocal group. In addition, the SOE Minister had the opportunity to meet and greet the eSport community in Tarutung which also attended the event. 

"Education is one of the sectors that Telkom focuses on to support and develop. Therefore, Telkom provides telecommunications infrastructure and services in the form of internet access and devices, and introduces digital solutions for education in which the teaching and learning process can be carried out more easily. We believe that with digitalization, education in Indonesia can leapfrog to be on par with other developed countries," Telkom President Director Ririek Adriansyah said.

Telkom has been executing its commitment to improve Indonesia's education sector for a long time through various programs such as Internet Goes to School, I Dedicate to You Teacher, Indonesia Digital Learning, My Teacher My Hero, Broadband Learning Center, Digital Library, Employee Volunteer Program, and others. These supports and the optimization of #DigitalForAll are expected to enable the nation's future students to have equal access to education so that Telkom's aspiration to nurture Indonesia's best digital talents can be realized as soon as possible in the future.
