Jakarta, 24 November 2022 - BigBox, a digital platform that PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) owns plays an active role in the success and fulfilling the needs of the Satu Data Indonesia (SDI) portal, which belongs to Semarang city administration  for a Big Data platform. Previously, Semarang city administration won the highest score (93%) from Indonesia's Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) and was appreciated at the G20 Forum in Bali in August 2022 on its SDI implementation.

Semarang city administration made its achievement possible by successfully applying the Open Government principles of transparency and accountability that it was able to formulate its strategic development policies based on data, in accordance with those in the Semarang City SDI portal. Prior to its success, Semarang city administration's Statistical Data Analyst, Taufan Yuristian Dalimarta said that many regional administration agencies, also known by its Indonesian acronym OPD, within Semarang city administration still do not have a digital data processing system, so they did it manually using Microsoft Excel. In fact, there were still OPDs that process data analogously using the Master Data Book.

"There are also a few OPDs, especially those that have a vertical relationship with ministries, that processed their data in a closed system so that they were not able to share the data or the data was inaccessible by other regional apparatuses," Taufan said.

Data has become a vital element as a basis for strategic policy making. By utilizing the BigBox platform, the digital ecosystem in the Semarang city administration is able to accelerate properly. BigBox helps convert analog data from several OPDs in the Semarang city administration, which did not yet have digital data processing. The platform enabled Semarang city administration to convert its various data formats which include Microsoft Excel, Pdf, and Jpg into digital data and were processed on the BigBox cloud server in real time so that the data are presentable in the form of data processing results and visual graphics on Semarang City SDI portal.

"The Semarang city administration needed a trusted technology provider whose entire technology infrastructure is in Indonesia and is fully controlled by compatriots to reduce the risks of data leakage and misuse. Therefore, we chose Telkom's BigBox because it is a superior digital product and evenly distributed throughout Indonesia," Taufan said.

The use of BigBox successfully integrated Semarang city administration's 2,162 sectoral data and produced 127 KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) from Semarang city administration. Moreover, BigBox also helped create a web-based platform to access data related to food security in the City of Semarang. Through this platform, the people of Semarang can access information about food in real time based on current conditions in the field.

Supporting Semarang city administration digital ecosystem acceleration, Telkom Digital Business Director Fajrin Rasyid said "BigBox's presence makes it easier for Semarang city administration to identify crucial problems related to food, and this data can be used in their efforts to overcome food problems," Fajrin said.

Semarang city administration's transparency by using BigBox has increased information disclosure for the public. In addition, through the Semarang City SDI portal and integrated data, it allows the community to participate in overseeing development and making policies that are right on target in the city.

"BigBox plays an active role in providing input, consultancy, and training to the Semarang city administration. With a technological approach, Semarang city administration is able to increase performance productivity and implement efficiency," Fajrin said.

BigBox is part of Leap, an umbrella brand for Telkom's digital products and services to accelerate the digitization of Indonesian society. Telkom hoped that Leap could support the growth of the digital ecosystem in Indonesia in order to accelerate the realization of national digital sovereignty, in line with the government's target in the coming years.
