Bukittinggi, 13 April 2022 – The Proud of Indonesian-Made Product national movement (Gernas BBI) is back for businesses, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and the community. Gernas BBI is being held now in West Sumatra, precisely in the cities of Bukittinggi, Payakumbuh, and Padang from April to June 2022. Embodying the spirit of "Maju Berkah Basamo UMKM” or MSMEs moving ahead with blessings, Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia KH Ma 'ruf Amin kicked off the Gernas BBI in West Sumatra at the Jam Gadang Bukittinggi square on Tuesday (12/4). Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority Wimboh Santoso, West Sumatra Governor H. Mahyeldi Ansharullah, and Mayor of Bukittinggi Erman Safar were among the attendants ate the event.

Telkom launched the Proud of Indonesian-Made Products virtual expo at the opening ceremony, featuring a modest fashion show made from traditional West Sumatran woven fabrics.

PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) again supports and takes part in making the Gernas BBI Maju Berkah Basamo MSMEs in West Sumatra a success. It provides support for internet service access and the use of booths for West Sumatra MSMEs that it fosters and organizes a virtual expo during Gernas BBI activities in the Minang region. With a web-based platform as a form of 3-Dimensional digital innovation available in the Virtual Exhibition solution, Telkom provides an interactive online experience during an exhibition or conference for visitors. This 3D Virtual Exhibition can also be a means to introduce Indonesia’s diverse nature, culture and MSMEs. At the virtual expo, visitors can take a walk around as if they were physically standing and are in the venue by using avatars that visitors can create themselves. If visitors wish to shop, they can interact with the sellers taking part in the expo via the live chat feature.

Vice President KH Ma'ruf Amin said in his remarks that West Sumatra has long been known as a center for MSMEs where 89% of the regional economy is supported by more than 600 thousand MSMEs. "We will continue to strive so that domestic products, especially MSMEs, can become hosts in our own market and beat the consumption of imported products."

The Vice President also said that strengthening digital competitiveness through improving technology and digital literacy and expanding internet and electricity infrastructure are crucial in the MSMEs’ digital transformation.

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan who was present online said, "In 2022, Gernas BBI is present through a virtual expo of superior regional products that Telkom has curated. I hope we can showcase these superior BBI products from the region at the G20 events in Bali, since the BBI movement has spurred domestic product spending.”

Governor of West Sumatra H. Mahyeldi Ansharullah said Gernas BBI was aimed at boosting preference and fondness of domestically-made products while at the same time awakening the MSMEs movement, in line with and in support of the West Sumatra Prosperous flagship program. He also said that the use of information and communication technology is important in developing digital businesses. He said he hoped the MSME and tourism sectors in West Sumatra could revive and boost the national economic recovery program in West Sumatra.

"As a manifestation of the company's support in accelerating the digitization of local businesses, especially MSMEs, Telkom has again held the Gernas BBI throughout 2022 by organizing a virtual exhibition. This is a venue for MSMEs to market their products and reach a wider target market. This is also the right moment to call on more MSMEs to go digital, where to date, there are more than 300 MSMEs on board. The virtual expo also provides convenience for visitors and to shop for various superior MSME products, especially those from West Sumatra," Telkom Strategic Portfolio Director Budi Setyawan Wijaya after the opening ceremony of Gernas BBI West Sumatra.

Budi said that Telkom is particularly concerned about the MSMEs development. Telkom regularly provides support to MSMEs, either by providing internet access, training and coaching for MSMEs, or SOEs housing facilities to the MSME Digital Market (PaDi UMKM) platform that the SOE Ministry has developed as a marketplace for SOEs to procure MSME products for their operational needs. The virtual expo and PaDi UMKM platform enable MSMEs to expand and seize the opportunity to increase their sales. In addition, it also enables regional MSMEs products to have more exposure nationwide. With digital technology, we can develop Indonesia’s diverse and unique culture and promote it better at home and abroad.

“This virtual expo is a good move to accelerate the local economy and it certainly has a positive impact on the growth of Indonesia's digital economy. Hopefully this virtual expo will be a good and practical strategy for MSMEs to develop their business. In the future, Telkom will continue to support MSMEs to move forward and be globally competitive," Budi said.

Gernas BBI Maju Berkah Basamo UMKM West Sumatra is a program that aims to develop the economy and culture in West Sumatra via digital means in the MSMEs and tourism sectors to enable them to  rise, develop, prosper, be the host in their own regions and have global exposure. The Gernas BBI Maju Berkah Basamo MSMEs West Sumatra activities include MSME bazaars, live shopping, business matchmaking and distribution of access to capital and intensive assistance to MSME actors.
