TelkomGroup is committed to supporting equal distribution of digital connectivity and accelerating Indonesia's economic development in the information and communication technology sector.

Jakarta, 13 September 2023 – PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom), through its subsidiary Telkomsat focusing on satellite business, continues to support the Indonesian government's program to accelerate national digitalization. One of Telkomsat's key services, VSAT Star, has been appointed to meet the telecommunications demands at the Papua Mountains province’s communication and information agency. Providing this service reflects TelkomGroup's commitment to reducing the digital gap in remote areas and supporting Indonesia economic expansion in information and communication technology (ICT), in line with the Indonesian government vision.

Currently, Telkomsat is the sole telecommunications operator in Indonesia with Starlink Non-Geostationary Satellite (NGSO) Landing Rights, specifically for backhaul services. VSAT Star offers communication services based on the Starlink Low Earth Orbit satellite constellation to connect the access network with the core network. This service provides data speeds of up to 200 Mbps per point, making it an ideal solution to overcome connectivity challenges in remote areas like the Papua Mountains.

"We express our deep appreciation to Telkomsat for the VSAT Star service. Before its introduction, we lacked network facilities to serve our offices, relying on internet access borrowed from the Regency Government. Therefore, we are very grateful for the arrival of VSAT Star, fulfilling our critical internet access needs," head of Papua Mountains communication and information agency Kalvin Billin said

With VSAT Star, the Papua Mountains communication and information agency now has access to high-speed and quality internet, enhancing efficiency in their operations.

Telkomsat remains committed to advancing technology and communication development across Indonesia, especially in remote areas like the Papua Mountains. To bridge backhaul infrastructure gaps in Indonesia, Telkomsat utilizes Starlink-based connectivity and collaborates with domestic operators.

"We consistently maximize and optimize the use of Starlink landing rights allocated to Telkomsat as part of TelkomGroup  efforts to support government initiatives for digital equity in Indonesia," Telkomsat President Director, Lukman Hakim Abd. Rauf said.

Through these efforts, Telkomsat aims to narrow the digital divide and stimulate economic growth in the frontier, remote, and less developed regions, aligning with the Indonesia government vision to advance the ICT sector nationwide. VSAT Star brings new opportunities for the Papua Mountains to actively participate in the burgeoning digital era.
