Jakarta, 3 January 2020 – Indonesia is entering the rainy season with quite a heavy rainfall at the start of 2020, which has caused flooding in several areas, especially in Jakarta and its surrounding suburbs To anticipate it, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) has put all its telecommunications equipment and operational teams, to ensure that TelkomGroup services continue to run as normal.
On Thursday (2/1), Telkom Managing Director, Ririek Adriansyah and fellow company directors visited the flood-stricken sites, such as Bekasi, Cengkareng, Srengseng, and Tangerang. "In this visit, we focus on reviewing the condition of Telkom's network devices affected by floods, the customers’ homes, employees, and the community as well as locations where TelkomGroup aid posts are established," Ririek said during his visit at a flooded area in Bekasi.
Ririek said that the TelkomGroup network, in general, was in a safe condition. There was indeed an interruption in the IndiHome services and BTS due to an electricity cutoff. Therefore, Telkom has prepared a generator set as a backup power supply so that all services can return to normal. The same condition also happened to the equipment at the Central Telephone Automat (STO) in Juanda Bekasi which had stopped operating because the floodwater level was high. "Thank God, the water has started to recede and the equipment at STO Juanda Bekasi is now on. We are striving to accelerate these equipment’s recovery so that they can operate to service the customers immediately," Ririek said.
Apart from ensuring the safety of network equipment, in a show of support to the community, Telkom also provides assistance to the public and customers affected by the flood in the Greater Jakarta area. During the visit, the Telkom Board of Directors handed over aid to the community and customers at each affected site.
For Jakarta and the surrounding suburbs, Telkom provides 1,500 basic staple food packages for the community at several shelters such as in Bekasi, Tangerang and North Jakarta. Telkom also mobilized five rubber boats to support the evacuation. "We also provide temporary relief posts at Telkom offices for those who need help. We hope this disaster will soon pass and activities can return to normal," Ririek said.
